When studying in the Netherlands finding a room or apartment can be quite tricky and expensive (depending on the city). Unlike the UK for example, it is not common to live on campus but to live and find a place individually. Therefore, it is wise to start making housing arrangements before your arrival in the Netherlands. Shared houses are common since most students can’t afford an own apartment or even a studio. Most houses organise group viewings (hospiteeravond) to find their perfect roommate. If possible arrive a few weeks before University starts so that you will be able to attend these meetings in person.
